I’ve Seen Ghosts

Out of the corner of my eye
I caught a whirling light
I thought the migraine might return
I barely slept last night.

The piercing pain refused to come
I thought the worst had passed
My body then became a stream
The blood escaped at last.

I woke up beaten, full of scars
Bewildered and alone
The ghost that spoke to me in dreams
Returned in flesh and bone.

He told me in a screeching wail
“Now you belong with me
Your body is all emptied out
I’ve come to set you free”.

The years have passed like hurricanes
And drowned me in debris
Decay has now become the law
And time it’s referee.

I’ve now become a psychopomp
I’m stuck inside a prayer
I know there’s just one thing I’ll find:
A ghost in every stare.
